Bear Grylls - Fondly Called Bear

Fondly called "Bear" by friends and fans, Edward Michael Grylls is a writer, adventurer and television host. Popular for his TV series Man vs. Wild in 2009, Grylls is known as the born survivor in the UK. He is the youngest ever Chief Scout at the age of 35.

Grylls' first book 'Facing Up' was amongst the UK top 10 best-seller list, and was released in the USA with the title 'The Kid Who Climbed Everest'. The book describes his expedition and first-hand experience climbing the summit of Mount Everest. Grylls' second book 'Facing the Frozen Ocean' was shortlisted for the William Hill Sports Book of the Year Award in 2004. His third book is written to accompany the series Born Survivor: Bear Grylls. It features survival skills learned while scouting some of the World's most-hostile places. This book made it to the Sunday Times Top 10 best-seller list.

Grylls also wrote an extreme guide to outdoor pursuits called Bear Grylls Outdoor Adventures. In 2011, Bear released his autobiography "Mud, Sweat and Tears." and is presently one of his best-selling book in Australia and the United Kingdom

He grew up in Donaghadee in Northern Ireland until he was four. Grylls completed his education at the Eaton House, Ludgrove School and the Eton College where he started his first mountaineering club. A young man with varied interests, he graduated from Birkbeck in Hispanic studies from the University of London and landed up with a part-time assignment in 2002.

Adventure has its roots in the family and Grylls learnt to climb and sail with his father, Sir Michael Grylls who was a late Conservative party politician. Lady Grylls was the daughter of Patricia Ford, briefly an Ulster Unionist Party MP and the cricketer and businessman, Neville Ford. Bear has an elder sister, Lara Fawcett, a cardio-tennis coach, who nicknamed her brother 'Bear' when he was a week old.

Featured on television shows for his undaunting spirit and early success, Grylls has been a guest on programs like Friday Night with Jonathan Ross, The Oprah Winfrey Show, Late Night with Conan O'Brien, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, and many more. Grylls also works as a motivational speaker, giving speeches worldwide to corporations, churches, schools, and other organizations.

Grylls' US-based publicist Heather Krug applauded Bear quoting his life-empowering shows to be a clear reason for high fan ship and award-winning programs for many seasons now. In his words, it is unfortunate that Bear and Discovery could not come to mutual agreement on the new program details, and hence the decision to terminate the contract and current productions.

Grylls looks forward to producing further cutting-edge content again soon for his audience. Grylls was the youngest Briton to climb Mount Everest at 23, and has been a adventurous TV host to many television programs including 'Escape To The Legion'.
