How to Advertise Your Photography Business With Portrait Parties

When starting out in your photography business, you'll likely not have a big budget for advertising. One fun and easy way to get the word out about your services is through portrait parties, which requires no money for advertising!

It's simple, really. Just take the time-tested home party system and apply it to your photography services. First, ask your friends and family if they would like to host a portrait party. Your friends could be people you know from work, your spouse's coworkers, people from church or other organizations you may belong to, business associates, relatives, etc. Think of all the people you know and approach them with the idea of having a portrait party. Explain to them that they will earn a percentage of the total sales toward their own portraits.

Your friends invite their friends over to their house (or an outdoor location). You show up at the designated time with your equipment and backdrops, etc. and photograph each person or family. The average mini-session for a portrait party is about 15 or 20 minutes per person/family and get anywhere from 5-10 shots

After processing the images, you either arrange another meeting for everyone to view their portraits, or post them in online galleries. Depending on how you do it, you or your hostess will take orders. Your hostess will get a percentage of the total sales in credit toward his or her own portraits.

Portrait parties are a wonderful way of getting people interested in your business and to get them to spread the word around to all their friends. You could easily book several parties within days and be well on your way to a regular income from your photography, with no advertising expenses!
