Caring For Your Canon Digital Camera - How to Prevent Moisture

Your Canon Digital Camera is one of the most precious investments you will ever make. Regardless of if you are an amateur, semi-professional or full-time pro photographer, your canon camera will serve you well for a very long time if you care for it well.

When you think of it your camera is constantly being exposed to the rough elements of our environment, wind, dust, salt water in the air, moisture, humidity, extreme heat, and extreme cold. All of these elements are not your camera's friend, so the most important thing you can do is to reduce your camera's extended exposure to these things.

Let's face it we do not live in a perfect world, so you will encounter these elements sooner or later, but there are things you can do to protect your camera.

For starters you must invest in a good well insulated, waterproof, secure camera bag, that will protect your equipment from the harsh elements. It is also a good idea to attach a good lens filter, like a skylight filter, to protect your lens. If you do a lot of outdoor activities in rugged terrain, then you want to make sure that you have a hard, metal case for maximum protection.

If you are experiencing wet or very damp weather, while you are taking pictures, then you should use a plastic bag around the camera and tie it off to prevent moisture from getting into the camera. It is kinda like making a weather proofing for your camera, you can even put a rubber band around the lens where the opening of the bag is, while the rest of the camera is inside the bag, and still take pictures.

If you have foreknowledge of any extreme weather condition, then the best thing is not to venture out with your camera at all. Prevention is always better than repair.

If you are going to be taking pictures near the beach, you can be sure that there will be a high concentration of salt in the air. This is one of your camera's mortal enemies. But do not despair, you can still have fun with your camera, just take a few precautions. Once your photo shoot is over you should clean your camera as soon as possible.

But for your prevention of damage to your camera by the corrosive salt air you should pack a few things with you to take on your trip. Invest in a good skylight or UV filter as they will provide extra protection from the harsh environment for the lens and the barrel.

Pack a clean, soft absorbent microfiber cloth and some lens tissue and seal them in a zip locker bag so they don't become contaminated themselves. Put a few packets of silicon gel in all the sections of your camera bag as this will absorb any moisture present and reduce condensation.

Follow these tips to protect your canon camera investment and make sure your store your camera in a cool, dry, padded case and area once you have cleaned it and its nice and dry. Never put liquids directly on your camera.
