I have been taking pictures for most of my life, and over the years I have been trying to figure out the best ways to make some money at it. Recently, I decided to convert my passion into a business. Where to start:
First you and I need good equipment. Get the best digital camera you can afford. Why digital? You get instant pictures that you don't have to process in a lab. With all the new software and computer speed available today, any child can edit, color correct, crop and re size your images however you want. Consider it as your home digital darkroom.
Next, create a photography website and/or blog. This is the best way to promote your photographic works to the public. There are many free blogs and website hosts, just do some research and find the best one to fit your needs and abilities.
Then Put together a list of all the ways you could make money as a photographer. Here is a list of 10 possible ways to make money with your photography. There are many, many more ways to make money photographing.
1. Photograph senior portraits
2. Wedding photographer
3. Prom and graduation photos
4. Shoot Sporting and other school events
5. Public relation photos for business
6. Family portraits
7. Pet photography
8. Real estate photography
9. Produce illustrated promotional brochures for business firms, hotels, etc.
10. Create Custom calendars, note cards and Christmas cards
