Why A School Website Is A Great Idea

A lot of schools still use a printed-on-paper school newspaper or magazine in order to express school news, editorials and opinions. So why would a school start using a website to express news and why is this such a good idea? There's a lot of great reasons to start a website. Read on to discover why.

The main advantage to a school website, something that a printed school magazine just can't replicate, is that viewers can comment and share the website with their friends, peers and family. For example, if they enjoy a particular section or page of the website they can "like" it on Facebook, Google Plus or other social media platforms, which lets other people find out about it too.

Another great thing about a school website is that almost everyone can make their own personal contribution. For example, students can contribute a post, article, video, performance or tag a photo to their name, and friends can leave comments too. Everyone gets to participate. No longer is it just a select few in the print publishing circle!

Another terrific aspect to a school website is that it can be updated with current events in real time. Instead of waiting to the next magazine print publication date, the website can be updated with important news and events within minutes. This is just a matter of uploading the new details and hitting the save button.

There's also the fact that students can let their creativity soar with a website. Student videos make amazing website content, not to mention the creativity found in student's art, photography, poems, audio podcasts and so on. Think of the hands-on experience a student gets by being part of a team that manages, produces and promotes a website!

Students can also check in to the website for important appointments, diary dates, book updates and essential study and exam dates. With a lot more schools using electronic devices such as notebooks, iPads, tablets and so forth, uploading work and finished projects to teachers is quicker and easier. Furthermore many schools now have students who study online full-time and who need to have access to a website for study guidance, instructions and feedback.

Of course there's always a time and a place for a school magazine or newspaper (in a printed format). At the same time there's also a lot of great advantages to setting up a school website that is visited not just by students but by parents, friends and the general community too. Let me know when you set yours up!
