How to Prepare For Your Final Year of High School

After more than a decade of schooling, your final year of high school should be one of the most exciting times of your life. A lot of students have already been accepted to college, or they have at least gotten the admissions process underway. By halfway through the school year, they will probably have all of the credits they need to graduate, so they can relax, have some fun, and enjoy spending time with their high school friends before leaving for college. If you want to be able to make the most of your final year of high school, it is important to prepare in the months leading up to its start. Create a list of all you need to accomplish during your junior year and the summer between then and your final year. That way, by Christmas break, you can wrap things up and look forward to the parties. Start by scheduling your senior pictures. You can make an appointment at a photography studio for professional photographs they will cherish for a long time to come.

Once the pics are snapped, get your college issues in place. Decide if you are going and where your top locations are located. Gather the appropriate applications and figure out how much time you will need to fill them out. Read through each and make a list of supplies you need, what the deadlines will be, and whether or not one or more essays is required. Keep in mind you can recycle essays, so if the questions are more general, try to use the same essay for more the one application. If you need to schedule appointments with anyone on campus, this is a good time to do so. Even if the appointments are months in advance, once they are scheduled you can get them on your schedule and not worry again until the date rolls around.

Once you have the college stuff out of the way, focus on the year ahead. It may begin like every other school year but you will soon learn there is plenty of out of the ordinary stuff to do. Following the winter break, you will be going non-stop until after graduation. Try to take care of as many things in advance as you can. It is never too early to shop for graduation gifts for your friends. Hit the after Christmas sales for some great deals. This way, you can put the gifts away and it will be one less thing to do during the busy months of May and June. If there are events you need to speak at, start thinking about some things you would like to say weeks in advance. Give yourself plenty of time to write and practice. If the events around your graduation are less formal, be sure to shop for clothes and necessities for each party. Speak with your fellow prom-goers about limos, dresses, and dinners as soon as you can. The earlier you get stuff done during your last year of high school, the more time there will be for fun.
